Cat 6

Cat 6 is a category of twisted-pair ethernet cables and connectors which has more stringent criteria than but remains backwards-compatible with Cat 5 and Cat 5e.

Standard details

The Cat 6 standard is for frequencies of up to 250MHz and to a maximum cable run of 100m (reduced to 55m for 10GBaseT networks). It has a miminum bend radius of 4 times the cable diameter. Shielding is not mandated by the standard but may be present to help reduce electromagnetic interference.
